Meet
our Schnauzers . . .
I started breeding Miniature
Schnauzers a few years ago, looking for a smaller dog for my daughter
to play with, and one that offered less trouble for children with
allergies.
Miniature Schnauzers
are a small dog breed that originated in Germany in the late 1900's,
as a cross between the Standard Schnauzer and one or more of the smaller
breeds like the Miniature Pinscher and Poodle. It's one of the more
popular dog breeds, in the top 10 in Canada, loved for its wonderful
temperament. The Official Standard (AKC) of the Miniature Schnauzer
describes the Schnauzer temperament as "Alert and spirited, yet
obedient to command. Friendly, intelligent and willing to please."
They are natural watchdogs, warning owners of people approaching,
then friendly when homeowners approach the guest. They are intelligent
and train easily, and are very good with children.
Meet
our Labs . . .
Our Labradors are like
a member of the family. They have the greatest temperment for the
conformation ring, obedience, hunting companion and the family pet.
We breed chocolate, yellow and black Labradors to standard.
The Labrador Retriever
originated on the Island of Newfoundland rather than Labrador. The
appellation, "Labrador", was used to distinguish him from
his larger cousin, the Newfoundland. During the nineteenth century
visitors to Newfoundland frequently wrote of the short haired dogs
that were admirable retrievers, and these dogs were imported to England
by returning fisherman. The dogs, originally used by the local wildfowlers,
eventually came to the attention of aristocratic sportsman impressed
by the dogs ability in the field. These aristocrats used imported
dogs from Newfoundland to establish the foundation kennels of the
breed.
The general appearance of the Labrador should be a strongly built,
short-coupled, very active dog. He should be fairely wide over the
loins, and strong and muscular in the hindquarters.
